The Sri Lanka Apparel Institute is happy to announce the Sri Lanka Fashion Forum from Thursday 18th November to Monday 22nd November 2010.  This forum is endorsed by the Export Development Board and the Joint Apparel Association Forum.
It is expected that, with the surge of the economy, great opportunities will open up in the manufacturing sectors of Apparel, Footwear and Leather to support the export drive. The aim of the Sri Lanka Fashion Forum is to get the Ministry of Industry & Commerce, the Export Development Board, the Joint Apparel Association Forum and all industry associations from the private sector to work together towards achieving the following objectives through a number of events outlined below.  
Objectives
  • To make Sri Lankan Apparel, Footwear & Leather, and Childrenswear industry more prominent in the global market – particularly in Continental Europe – thus increasing revenue from the sector and exploring partnership opportunities.
  • To enhance transfer of state-of-the-art technology through acquisition of modern technology, in particular for the Apparel, Footwear & Leather, and related industries.

  • Thursday 18th November: Footwear Summit - The Sri Lankan Footwear, Leather & Accessories Sector Challenges
Presentations on Contemporary Footwear Education and Industry Engagement by Cordwainers experts Steven Dell and Ian Goff from London College of Fashion
Presentation on Ministry of Industry & Commerce outline Vision and Strategy: Retailers Expectations by industry representatives; and presentation on Trade and Export Trends by the Export Development Board
Afternoon discussion to explore and develop a Strategic Roadmap for the Sri Lankan Footwear, Accessories and Leather Goods Sector
  • Saturday 20th November: Entrepreneurship and Branding-Marketing Challenges
One day workshop on How to Start Your Own Fashion Business by Toby Meadows and Wendy Malem from London College of Fashion
Presentation on Entrepreneurship Short Courses in Sri Lanka by Dr Lynne Hammond (London College of Fashion) and Dr Nirmali de Silva (University of Moratuwa)
  • Monday 22nd November: The Future of Garment Manufacturing and Product Development for Export Challenges
Morning workshop on Contemporary Garment Manufacturing and Product Development  and Innovative Strategies by Dr Lynne Hammond (London College of Fashion) and Prof Rudolf Haug (Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences)
